ILLiad is Viterbo University's Interlibrary Loan program. If you cannot locate an item you need using our library's resources, interlibrary loan services are available to all Viterbo students, faculty and staff.
If you cannot find an item through Viterbo University's catalog or databases, we will borrow the item for you from another library. Use ILLiad, the library's online requesting service, to make new requests. Refer to the Interlibrary Loan subject guide for information on setting up an account and making requests. If you have questions about interlibrary loans, we will be happy to guide you through the request project just contact us!
When will materials arrive?
||Typically, 7 days or fewer
||10 - 14 days
||Dissertations require more time to obtain than books or articles if they are only owned by the original publisher. If the dissertation is not available from another library, you may purchase it from UMI Disseration Express.
||Conference papers can be difficult or impossible to obtain. Since most papers are maintained by the author rather than by the lending organization, ask us to help you locate the author.
|Other hard to obtain materials
||Videos, music, musical scores, and reference materials are often not lent by many libraries and we must search to find a lending library to fulfill requests for unique items in these categories. We can usually obtain microfilm or microfiche, but it must be viewed in the library due to the item's expense. Videos may have similar restrictions depending on the cost and insurance requirements.
The library will contact you via email when an item becomes available.
The loan period for interlibrary loan materials is determined by the lending library, not Viterbo. The loan periods vary, but are typically about four weeks. The due date is on the label affixed to your interlibrary loan item.
It is common for lending libraries to grant one renewal, but no more. Renewals may be made by logging into ILLiad and choosing View/Renew checked out items.
Overdue materials cannot be renewed. If you still need the item, email us or call 608-796-3269. We ask that you return overdue items, and we will request another copy if needed.
Borrowing Text Books
The library does not promote the borrowing or lending of textbooks and will decline an interlibrary loan borrowing request when it is done in lieu of purchasing a text book for a course. Purchasing or renting text books is an essential part of your educational experience at Viterbo. The process of borrowing a text book can take up to several weeks, leaving the requester without a text for an extended period of time. Books generally must be returned within four weeks, leaving a student without a text for the remainder of the semester.
