English Language Requirements

If your native language is not English, you are required to submit certification of proficiency in English by means of the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) prior to admission. The TOEFL is administered in more than 90 testing center around the world. For more information regarding the location of these centers, and for making arrangements to take the TOEFL or have your scores sent to Viterbo, visit the TOEFL website at

The following is Viterbo University TOEFL requirements for admission:

  • For undergraduate students, the TOEFL requirement is 500+ paper test, 173+ computer test, and 61+ Internet test. For graduate students, the TOEFL requirement is 550+ paper test, 213 computer test, and 79 Internet test.
  • If you are not yet proficient in English, but are otherwise academically qualified, Viterbo University has a very good English as a Second Language (ESL) program. You will be admitted provisionally to Viterbo University and after you successfully complete the ESL program, you can enroll in the major program.
