Counseling Services

College life can be exciting, challenging, and very stressful. College students are faced with many changes in their lives, which can be difficult. It is not unusual for students, traditional or adult, to experience emotional struggles related to family, self, and others. Students don't need to meet these challenges alone. Counseling can help bridge the gap and offer support as a student is facing these challenges.

Students may schedule an appointment with counseling services by contacting Denise Homstad at the Student Development Center, 608-796-3825 or dlhomstad@viterbo.edu. A student can also stop in to the Student Development Center, located at 936 Franciscan Way, to make an appointment. Appointments are free for all students. Hours are 9 a.m-6 p.m. Monday-Friday during the academic year except holidays. Time is reserved each day from 2-3 p.m. for walk-in appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. These are not scheduled appointments or reserved appointments. Those who are in crisis will have immediate priority.

Prior to the intake session students are asked to complete a personal information sheet to help the counselor understand the student's concerns. During the intake appointment the student and counselor will discuss the student's concerns and determine which counseling service will be most helpful. Counseling services are short-term and appropriate referrals are made by the counselor.
