Biology at Viterbo

Biology is the study of life and the study of life is relevant to our everyday existence. From the trillions of cells in the human body to the complex and interconnectedness of all living things on the planet, the scope of what can be learned from the study of biology is truly amazing.

A major in biology at Viterbo provides students with a breadth of knowledge within the biological sciences (cellular and molecular biology, anatomy and physiology, ecology, behavior, and evolution) as well as the opportunity to gain a greater depth of knowledge in specialized areas of interest. The biology major may lead to immediate employment after undergraduate studies are completed, but it also prepares students for advanced studies in research and health related fields. This allows students to develop their interests and tailor their learning to career aspirations while learning about and researching topics related to our understanding of life.

Majoring in biology at Viterbo provides students with a student centered learning environment including active teaching techniques, hands-on learning experiences, career exploration, research and internships embedded within the curriculum. Biology majors explore the biological sciences through guaranteed research or internship opportunities with Viterbo faculty or one of our many science and health care partners.

Featured Alumni

“Viterbo allowed me to realize my goal of being a collegiate athlete and also gave me the best opportunity to get into a very competitive veterinary school program. Viterbo has smaller class sizes, an energetic campus life that makes it easier for students to get involved, and professors who know students by name and are always willing to meet outside of class for any questions.”
