VITERBO UNIVERSITY FINE ARTS CENTER RECITAL HALL TO BE NAMED IN HONOR OF ALUMNA NOLA (STARLING) RATLIFF IN CEREMONY MAY 21
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Recital Hall will receive the name Nola Starling Recital Hall in a special ceremony at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21.
The naming of the recital hall is made possible by a significant gift from Kourtney Gibson, daughter of Viterbo University alumna Nola (Starling) Ratliff. Gibson’s gift has been designated to support an endowed scholarship to promote diversity in the name of Thea Bowman, FSPA, and in honor of Ratliff.
Ratliff is a 1974 graduate of Viterbo who has gone on to excel in the field of education. She is the principal at Roosevelt Elementary School in Kenosha. She has served on the Viterbo Board or Trustees and has received a Distinguished Alumni Award for her service to the community. Ratliff was a student of Sr. Bowman’s at Viterbo.
“Sr. Thea was the type of individual who brought life and joy to everyone around her,” said Ratliff. “She taught us to be the best we could possibly be, to take our education and share it with others, and to never forget from where we came.”
Viterbo President Glena Temple expressed thanks on behalf of the Viterbo University community.
“A scholarship that will promote diversity and help make a college education possible for a deserving student is a fitting tribute to the incredible legacy of Sr. Thea Bowman and a wonderful gift by Kourtney Gibson in honor of her mother,” Temple said.
