Viterbo Rings in the Christmas Season with the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign

Serving as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign was a great way for Viterbo University student Therese Dehnert and others to “ring in” the holiday season.“I really like giving back to the community and you get a chance to get to know your ringing partner pretty well,” said Dehnert, a sophomore nutrition and dietetics major from Apple Valley, Minn., who regularly participates in the university’s Service Saturdays program.Dehnert was one of approximately 150 Viterbo students and employees who served as bell ringers in two-hour shifts from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. at 15 locations in the greater La Crosse area as part of the university’s Viterbo Rings service event Nov. 17. Dehnert, who is a member of Viterbo’s Honors Program, rang bells at the Shopko in Onalaska. She was also the site’s organizer.

Viterbo University Winter Commencement is Dec. 15

Seventy-nine undergraduate students, 30 master’s degree students, and four associate degree students will be candidates for graduation at Viterbo University’s winter commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.All faculty, administrators, and staff are invited to participate. Participants should gather in the Fine Arts Center dance studio by 10:45 a.m. There will not be secure storage for personal items.The same tips that apply to graduates wearing caps and gowns also apply to wearing academic regalia. Gowns should be pressed and worn with dark slacks or hosiery and dark shoes. Caps should be worn level, and no jewelry or other adornments should be worn with the gowns.

Jim Salmo Named Viterbo University Vice President for Advancement

James (Jim) Salmo has been named vice president for advancement at Viterbo University effective in January. Salmo was chosen to lead fundraising and benefactor relation efforts at Viterbo, succeeding Wendell Snodgrass who resigned in August.
