Theatre Education

Theatre Education at Viterbo

Theatre educators not only teach students acting, design, and production techniques, they help them to develop critical thinking skills and to find confidence to express themselves in creative ways. Teachers have the opportunity to empower young people and to provide opportunities for them to discover their potential.

Theatre education majors at Viterbo University experience hands-on training in acting, stage management, technical theatre, design, and theatre production. Core classes in the theatre department are combined with courses in the School of Education to create a solid foundation for beginning a career teaching high school theatre. Theatre education majors are strongly encouraged to complete a teaching minor in a discipline of their choice, allowing for another area of potential teaching certification.

With a theatre education degree from Viterbo University, graduates will develop the necessary skills and gain the confidence and experience to teach young people to express themselves in creative ways.

“Viterbo prepared me not only for my professional career as a theatre teacher, but it also opened up my eyes to other cultures and countries—whether it be from analyzing a character in a play, or from the variety of experiences the professors have to share. Viterbo helped foster my confidence, passion for teaching, and also the desire to challenge and improve myself.”
