Theatre at Viterbo

Successful theatre performances involve a team of professionals in various roles working together to create moving and memorable productions. Theatre performers focus on acting, voice, movement, dance, and verse drama, while those in technical production concentrate on theatrical design, technology, and related skills needed to support those performing on stage. Stage managers play a critical role carefully coordinating the performance with knowledge in directing, sound and video production, and technical direction.

No matter what area of interest, theatre majors at Viterbo University receive broad-based training and hands-on experience in acting, lighting, sound, costume, scenery, make-up, and stage management. An 8:1 student-faculty ratio at Viterbo means students receive individualized attention from faculty who are talented, accomplished, and professionally active artists.

Being a theatre professional involves more than just acting, design and technical production, and stage management. It requires creativity, critical thinking skills, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and project management. Theatre professionals understand the power of collaboration, determination, and dedication. With a theatre degree from Viterbo University, graduates have the necessary skills and confidence to succeed in theatre and in life.

“My experience at Viterbo was very special. My training was not only thorough, but wide in scope. Today, a career in opera requires not only excellent singing, but serious acting skills as well. I chose Viterbo based upon the strength of the theatre program as well as the small class sizes. Viterbo provided not only a great training program for actors and singers, but opened me to many learning experiences that have enriched me as an artist.”
