WELL-BALANCED PIANIST - A Workshop in Optimal Movement and Mindset for Piano Practice and Performance | February 16 - 17, 2018

Saturday, February 17:
• 9:00 - 10:30am (Piano Masterclass – Viterbo piano majors)
Dr. Dybvig will ask them a couple of weeks beforehand what stands in the way of them feeling good about performing. I'll use the responses to give each person an assignment. They'll perform for everyone and then we'll discuss the assignment and how it went for them.

CLINIC: "Creating a variety of sound"
Dr. Dybvig will demonstrate elements of sound quality, dynamics, accents, etc.
• 1:00 - 2:15pm (FAC 435/Choir Room)
BROWN BAG LUNCH with mindset discussion on difference between practicing and performing.
• 2:30 - 5:30pm (Mary Ellen Haupert’s studio – FAC 422)

Teresa Dybvig is founder and director of The Well-Balanced Pianist, which presents a variety of short, intensive programs for small groups of pianists, high school age and above, amateur and professional.

Friday, February 16:
Opportunity for PRIVATE LESSONS - 12:15 - 3:15pm (contact Mary Ellen Haupert to schedule a lesson with Dr. Dybvig.)

• 4:30 – 6:00pm (FAC Recital Hall or FAC 435/Choir Room)
PRESENTATION: “Setting the Stage for Mental and Physical Freedom in Practice and Performance”
Learn about diet, exercise, and sleep, posture - sitting and standing, one’s interface with the piano, wrist alignment, and mindset. Handout and resource list provided.

• 6:30 – 8:30pm Dinner, followed by Q & A at Mary Ellen Haupert’s home (1632 Ferry Street)
After dinner, there will be a Q & A session with Dr. Dybvig. Participants are welcome to bring difficult passages or teaching questions to see how applying the ideas from the talk could help with problem-solving.
